Le Labo

A few days ago, I was reintroduced to the branding of Le Labo. Mariel and I went down to their NoLIta story to pick up a few candles. Their brand has a level of intimacy that is beyond that of many of the surrounding stores. I account this to two stylistic choices that are carried well across all of their products and within the store as well. First, there is a look of traditional precision throughout their products. The store has a fair number of clunky metal machines providing a strong analog nostalgia. In addition to this, their packaging does have the repetitive sense of machined goods. Their metal containers seem to have been crushed at some point, adding a nice feeling of back story. This is accompanied by the option to customize the label of your product. All together, the store feels more like a laboratory somehow transported from a French countryside around the turn of the century.
