There is a real calm, collected confidence that attracts me to the photos of Brad Smith. Everyone outside in New York is still going crazy over the hot weather, with packs of people filling the streets by day, sometimes a bit too eager to soak up all of the warmth that they were denied over winter. That initial taste of spring always gets people riled up, as if the temperature will plunge any minute and the sky will cloud over (seriously, a friend tweeted today about a man long boarding in a bathing suit, calm down).
One of the upsides of the craziness of the day is that it induces this lull as the sun begins to set. This is the feeling that I think of while looking through these straight forward photos. They have a balanced composition combined with a clarity that lends itself to a rational inspection of the objects depicted. See more on flickr.
