No. 21 Fall 2012

Source: Vogue

As I expected, No. 21's Fall 2012 collection was everything wonderful in terms of subtly chic. Designer Alessandro Dell’Acqua seemed to know just what he was doing when he decided on layering sheer and tweed garments, as the result was a sultry array of elegant, well-tailored, classic silhouettes. With only eight collections in total, No. 21 has been consistently minimalist and stylish and this collection was not even close to being an exception.

Herve Leger Presentation

As the lights dimmed and everyone took their position, models clad in classic Herve Leger bandage dresses, embellished with fringe, accentuated with harnesses, and completed with gladiator heels sauntered one by one down the runway to the dark and sensual sound of 'Equinox', which like the previous season's HL show music is a track by the anonymous and #cult DJ/producer Zomby. Unlike the BCBG MAXAZRIA show whose front row was full of celebrities, HL was filled with fashionistas and classic fashion week eccentrics. The feeling amongst the crowd was very personal and all very fashionable at the same time. The intimacy didn't stop at the catwalk in front of the 'Herve Leger' logo though, it felt as if you could walk backstage without anyone saying anything. Although the pieces were each stunning in their own right, the total feeling of the show was to be most remembered and adored. These garments hold the essence and purvey it to anyone who wasn't there. Click below to see more!

BCBG Max Azria Fall 2012 Presentation

Are you ready for all of this BCBG MAXAZRIA that we are about to throw your way? Here are the pictures that Jordan took while we were at the show. We made triptychs as a way of showing the motion of the garments in a static way (personally I am a little too A.D.D. for movies sometimes and prefer to see stills from shows). I love all of the sheer/fur/leather seen in this collection, it offers a sort of Great Gatsby vibe in that extremely chic and sophisticated way rather than in that resort collection sort of way. Alberta Ferretti is so Witch House

When did Alberta Ferretti become so witch house? I am not going to say that I didn't doctor this image to enhance the truly witch house quality of this look buy I am also not going to say that it was my photoshopping that makes this look seriously witch house. While you are contemplating the witch housey elements, or how many times I write the words witch house in this post, here is a witch house playlist Jordan put together of witch house songs that we like. And while we are on the topic of witch house, Urban Outfitters sells crucifixes now. In more than one style. Personally I am not into the whole wearing crosses thing, but I think it is cool if you are, in fact I have a little DIY project that can bring your cross necklace to a whole new level of witch house. All you have to do is take your cross necklace off of the chain/cord/etc. and with a hot glue gun, glue the eyelet of a hook-and-eye closure to the bottom of the cross so that there is now a loop coming from the bottom. Wait until the glue is completely dry and re-string the cross from the new loop. Omg you will be so witch house!

Richard Nicoll & Vera Wang

When looking at collections I always try to look for the overall themes that appear as the fashion week season comes together rather than focusing on individual looks. But sometimes when you really love certain looks, especially when you do not like most of the collection otherwise, you find yourself saving them to a file on your computer. You might even cut a few out in photoshop and make a collage with them. The two looks on the left are from Vera Wang's Spring 2012 collection and the two looks on the right are from Richard Nicoll's Spring 2012

Vera Wang's nymphs in pink and green:

Richard Nicoll's Diana Vreeland stylish pale blue look and his 90s, reminds me of Isaac Mizrahi's Fall 1994 collection seen in the documentary Unzipped, pink look.

Inspired by Jill Stuart

Recently I have been inspired by the Jill Stuart Spring 2012 collection. Especially the three front looks. My favorite is the one in the middle. The collection as a whole is extremely Stepford Wife but with different tailoring. Stepford Wife and a little Gatsby I suppose. I love the leather detailing with the tailoring, it makes for a cool, elegant chic.

Pink and white will be Barbie in my mind forever. It is like Barbie+Stepford Wife+Classic tailoring+90s = beyond cool. I am loving this!

Hervé Léger Spring 2012

This afternoon Jordan and I went to see the Hervé Léger by Max Azria Spring 2012 show. The show was started with Salamander, a dark hypnotic and ethereal track from Zomby's new LP Dedication, which mirrored the mood of the collection. Hervé Léger's signature body-con bandage style dresses, which are known for their femininity and elegance, were taken to a new level this season: a new level of sexy. Tall beautiful models drifting whimsically in well stitched dresses, most baring cut outs, garments made out of straps of leather, fringe, and to finish it details of silver and gold. The collection also had other pieces including a beautiful little jacket and a cut out bathing suit.
What stuck with me most were the garments made out of straps of leather. They remind me of a poster designed by Dutch Graphic designer Wim Crouwel for an exhibition featuring the work of French painter, sculptor, and filmmaker Fernand Léger. Crouwel designed the word Leger on the poster to be reminiscent of the artist's work.
Thank you to Michael and Cliff for inviting us! We love you both!
