Dior in Moscow

Looking around the internet this morning I stumbled across a truely wonderful set of images from Life magazine. They come from a fashion shoot that Christian Dior held in Moscow (then part of Soviet Russia) in the 1959. The photos were shot by Howard Sochurek, who followed the models as they went on an informal exhibition on the streets of Moscow. The colors of the images immediately grabbed me, and the content held my attention. The style of the photography nicely matches that of the clothes, lending the shoot a nice organic feel.

Splendid Thermal

We have been taking a lot of pictures lately for our upcoming issue, not so much of my outfits. We should be better about that, we do seem to have a thousand cameras. Also, I like behind the scenes pictures, so I do not why we do not take more. Either way, I will post the cover of our special issue soon! For now here is a recent outfit. The waffle knit that I am wearing is so lovely! It is from Splendid, you can get it here! Tomorrow, Jordan and I are heading to Storm King, hopefully we get some good shots! For now I am figuring out what to pack and pretending that I am not getting sick! Later!

Knits on Knits

For the first time after class the other day, Jordan and I went into the garden at the New York Public Library that is right by my apartment. I would have worn a more garden appropriate outfit but we hadn't planned to stop in. But I like this outfit, it is one of those outfits you could read magazines in all day. I bought the jeans a couple of sizes to big so they would be baggy and comfortable (and then sent them to the wash so they wouldn't be so baggy). Rolling up the bottoms makes me feel a little like a rebel without a cause and adds that extra bit of casualness that makes it all work. I paired them with a waffle knit (duh) and a big scarf that I knit.

White Stars Black Fabric

I recently have been into white stars on black fabric. It started when my father bought a tie from Acne that was black with white stars on it. I got this dress from H&M, it was exciting for me to find it.

Waffle Knits

Recently, I have been looking for thermals everywhere, and when I say everywhere I mean I have spent the past couple of days looking for thermals. Not just any normal thermal but the perfect type of thermal, that is thermals that are made out of a soft material, have the right cut and are the right size waffle knit. Either someone bought all of them them already or no place (that I have been to yet at least) knows how/what or wants to make waffle knits. I did get a perfect one from Free People that I showed previously as well as the crop top one from Urban Outfitters. I love them both, they are so comfortable and keep me warm. Now to find a well cut waffle knit maxi dress, anyone know of any?

Silk and Cashmere

Usually I am not opposed to the idea of wearing black and brown together but the thought of wearing my black faux leather pants with my brown leather bomber actually makes me cringe. So when I was getting dressed, after I had put on this grey cashmere jumper, I found myself in an overly dramatic state of horror. I wanted to collapse, how could I go on?! I definitely was not going to spend the day with the black faux leather and brown leather combination that I previously mentioned and I was not willing to spend the day freezing either. In addition to that, I recently discovered that I do not have the greatest collection of jackets and this incident only made it feel smaller. However, my state of horror was short lived, I remembered that silk and cashmere together make a natural insulator and with that note in mind I was ready to go.

I am not sure if waffle knit tops are suddenly a rare thing or if I have just been looking in the wrong places but I am starting to think that I am the only person who think that they are perfect for Fall. I ordered this Free People one off of Karmaloop. It is just the kind I have been looking for! Do you guys know of any good shops for waffle knits, online or not?

Missoni for Target: the online shopping expierience

Missoni for Target Dress and leggings

Like many people, I too experienced the greatest internet crash of 2011 (kidding), a crisis that left the nation in a state of confusion. A state of frustration, where the only thing to do was to wait it out, wait for some answers, press refresh, and consistently check Twitter. Everyone was in a state of anger, not me though, not this girl.

There was no true reason for me to get mad. That morning I accidentally woke up too early, there was no plan to even logon, but in my sleep deprived state I somehow remembered that today was the day. Then without realizing it I found myself in the middle of a nightmare even though I had just gotten up. After more time than I should have allowed, I closed the window. Target's website had crashed just as I was about to checkout. Even though I had everything that I wanted in my cart and even though I knew that there would be nothing left in my size, if there was anything left at all when I logged back on later that day, I knew it was pointless to get mad.

When I logged back on in the evening it was only to check to see if the site was working, I had no intention of buying anything. The site was working, and just as I predicted, there was nothing left in my size. Then I had a realization: I was forgetting the children's section of Missoni for Target. I ended up getting everything I had wanted, including these leggings that I had not even planned on getting originally.

When I got the package I realized that the leggings match the dress and together they create a perfect traveling outfit. So next time you see me at the train station or at the airport, unless I have gotten that pair of cashmere pants from net-a-porter, there is a pretty good chance I will be wearing this! Later!

Faux Leather and Helmut Lang

As I mentioned in a previous post, I recently picked up a pair of faux leather pants from H&M. I decided to wear them the other night when Jordan and I wandered into Soho for an espresso. In an attempt to stick to my sweater wearing agenda I threw on my sweater from Helmut Lang, seeing as it is kind of thin and if it was warmer than expected I would be okay. I also threw on this jacket from H&M, which is also pretty light, that way if it was colder than expected I would be warm. That is fashion math for you. My shoes are a couple years old, I picked them up on a trip to Amsterdam with my family. The P.C. Hooftstraat has the best shoe stores I swear. Even though they are a size or a size and a half too big I still love them.

It's a Cheap Monday (Friday)

I kind of have a thing for Cheap Monday, not their jeans, but for everything else. I am not exactly sure how into this brand people are, seeing as you can basically only buy it in store at Urban Outfitters in the US, but I think their collections are cohesive, simplistic and generally cool. Although I generally buy things from Cheap Monday online, I first bought it when I was browsing the UO sale section and came across one of their basic t-shirts in white, in my size, for only ten dollars. What a find! It was soft and it kind of reminded me of the t-shirts from Acne that I love most. I bought the shirt and and now I am completely into the brand, which is why I found myself wearing everything Cheap Monday with the exception of my shoes the other day.
The shoes that I am wearing I bought last weekend for five dollars in Soho. It is strange because I had been looking at a similar pair of Jeffrey Campbell ones a day or two before, which look a lot like these, but no place had them in my size. Also, I did not feel like spending the already low price (when I say low I mean it in comparison to the cost of the high heels that I really want but do not even bother to look at because buying heels like that should be a once in a while sort of purchase in my opinion, unless shoes are your thing of course) of only hundred and something dollars for them. When I found these I was relieved that I would not have to think about the pair of JC ones I do not have and thrilled that I found them. Oh and for those who did not see my previous post, the source of inspiration for the rose in these pictures are the images from my Rosebud Lips post. Later!
