White Stars Black Fabric

I recently have been into white stars on black fabric. It started when my father bought a tie from Acne that was black with white stars on it. I got this dress from H&M, it was exciting for me to find it.

Faux Leather and Helmut Lang
As I mentioned in a previous post, I recently picked up a pair of faux leather pants from H&M. I decided to wear them the other night when Jordan and I wandered into Soho for an espresso. In an attempt to stick to my sweater wearing agenda I threw on my sweater from Helmut Lang, seeing as it is kind of thin and if it was warmer than expected I would be okay. I also threw on this jacket from H&M, which is also pretty light, that way if it was colder than expected I would be warm. That is fashion math for you. My shoes are a couple years old, I picked them up on a trip to Amsterdam with my family. The P.C. Hooftstraat has the best shoe stores I swear. Even though they are a size or a size and a half too big I still love them.

Black Faux Leather Pants from H&M Faux Real
Yesterday night while Jordan and I were in Soho we stopped into H&M an hour or so before it closed, which I have decided is the best time to go into an H&M. I am pretty sure they had just gotten a shipment in, there were crates being unpacked and a lot of things in my size, which is rare. I had originally gone in to get a pair of faux leather shorts but then after I found this pair of faux leather pants I realized that they make more sense seeing as it is getting cold. Now it is back to getting ready to brave the rain, later!

Mannequins at Bloomingdales and H&M
I love the pictures of mannequins that Jordan takes. They always make me laugh because I never think about how outrageous mannequins look until I look at his pictures of them. The bottom one from Bloomingdales is so sensual! You can see more of his photos here.

LF Black Knit Shorts H&M White T-Shirt: day to night look
Currently I am obsessed with these black knit shorts that I picked up at LF (LF makes the best knit shorts). I like to pair them with a white t-shirt, it is my everyday uniform at the moment. Conveniently for me, it is a look that I can wear day or night when accessorized properly. Here are my day and night versions of the look. The night version was taken before the heatwave and the day version was taken when the city was at its hottest. One plus about being in a heat wave is that it is perfect weather for taking pictures, it explains why West 4th Street is completely empty. Unfortunately, we only made it a couple of blocks before turning back to the apartment with only two shots to show for it.

I am sooo indie... just look at my American Apparel (Independent [Independence Day] Fashion)
I am done with summer classes! So exciting! Now that I am done with exams I can finally do an outfit post (even if the title is a mixture of bad puns thrown together to make an even worse joke)! Even though I spent the holiday weekend studying I did get a chance to wear a 4th of July outfit when Jordan and I went to get breakfast at around 8 in the morning. Holiday outfits are actually not my sort of thing and I am not a fan of garments with flags on them (unless it is from Balmain), but why not show off my DIY American flag tanktop (that I actually wore in my Saturday and Elin Kling outfit post) on the one day where I can wear it and not feel like a poser version of a 'cool-kids-cant-die' girl from Australia? Seriously, they wear American flags better than any American and they have been doing it for ages/do not look offensive because they are Australian so it is not associated so much with that whole American Apparel-Urban Outfitters hybrid (I am not against either of AA or UO, my cardigan is from UO) meets NASCAR look. I hope everyone had a lovely holiday weekend wherever you are from! Later!

William Rast Shorts T by Alexander Wang Top summer look day to night
My outfit from last night (which I actually spent most of studying) consisted of a soft white top from T by Alexander Wang and denim shorts from William Rast. In my mind the everyday white t-shirt and denim shorts combination is one of those classic summer styles that can be worn day or night depending on what you pair it with. I took advantage of this versatility and added a polite, soft, slouchy, black leather bag, and to give a more put together feel I balanced the laid back casualness with some overtly structural elements: these cuffs from H&M that I picked up ages ago and the Lita platforms.
Also I am currently waiting for my best friend to get into the city! She lives in Dallas and I have not seen her ages! Wahoo! Okay, back to studying! Later!

I like my T by Alexander Wang Tee with Gap Jean Shorts
I am happy to say that I got an A on my last two tests! All of my summer time studying paid off! For now at least, my two finals are on Tuesday so I have a lot more studying to do! When I am studying I have to take loads of little breaks or else I cannot remember anything. If I am taking a break I am usually on a walk. It is my favorite thing to do in the summer and Jordan is nice enough to come with me! Later!

I wonder if Flying Lotus liked my outfit
Tonight I was supposed to go with Jordan to see Shlohmo and others but once again we decided that I should stay in and study for a test that I have on Monday. I thought I would take a break and do an outfit post.
On Thursday Jordan and I went to Brooklyn to see Flying Lotus, which was amazing. Thursday afternoon I was a little freaked out because I had no idea what to wear to a show in Brooklyn when there was a chance of rain on a hot day. Finally after a couple of outfits and I decided on a top from Rag & Bone, a pair of black Hudson jeans (I made a last minute decision and changed into cotton shorts when I was getting ready), ankle boots from Steven by Steve Madden, and a jacket from Gap.
I was not able to get a picture of my outfit on Thursday so Jordan took a couple pictures on Friday. the only thing that is different is my jacket. On Thursday I wore a short grey jacket from Gap but the weather on Friday called for something else so I decided to wear a jacket from H&M. While we were wandering around we stopped into this gallery that had this great white room with an almost rainbow colored sculpture type thing, I thought I should have my picture next to it so I could have a Pride picture! Hopefully Jordan and I will make it back to the West Village in time to catch some of the Pride Parade. I have a feeling that this year might be crazier than ever... for one particular, amazing and lovely reason (I am sure we all know what I am talking about!)! My apartment looks right onto Christopher Street! Okay back to studying! Later!

DIY Monday: Fringe
DIY Monday was not actually scheduled, and I may have done this on Saturday if not Friday. I did not make the diamonds, nor do I own them... Thanks Harry Winston, you are forever an inspiration!
For DIY Monday (not going to make a habit out of this one) I made a fringe shirt. I have been wanting something new fringe for awhile now and after my recent DIY mindset (closet oriented only) I decide to take matters into my own hands and do it myself.
I am sure you already know how to make a fringe anything, but at the risk of knowing that there could be one person out there who does not know (and I cannot let that happen) how I will explain what I did.
To do this take a shirt, I bought a long sleeved black shirt from H&M, and put it flat on the floor. Measure how long you want your shirt/vest/skirt to be and mark it with a pencil. With a pair of scissors cut strips in the fabric. If you want to be precise I would suggest marking everything out with a ruler. I made the front shorter than the back but you do not have to. There you go!

DIY Friday
For this weeks DIY Friday my inspiration came from two pictures, which I find to be so beautiful and delicate. One is a picture of soft ballet themed garments and the other is a picture of Siri Tollerød. I think both of the pictures came from either Fydez or Holly's Tumblrs.. (I need to start writing this down).
The total cost of this DIY project is only about 18 dollars and it only involves scissors (a dream come true, no?).
On Thursday I stopped into H&M and picked up a sheer pink tank top for five dollars and a long sleeve shirt for twelve dollars. I bought them both a couple sizes too big so that the tank top would be long enough to be worn as a dress and the top would be loose enough to hang freely.
When I got back to my apartment I put the shirt on over the tank top and marked out where I wanted to make the cut with a pencil. I took the shirt off, I put it on the floor and made an even cut across. That is all!

All photographs taken for this blog (unless otherwise stated) are taken by Jordan Romanoff. He is a lovely photographer (in fact his whole family is photography talented, you may have noticed both his Father's photographs and his sister Zan's photographs in our last issue) and his blog has pictures from coast to coast.

White knit shorts
I kind of have a thing for knit shorts. I have ever since I tried my first pair on at LF in LA during winter break. I love them. They are so feminine and delicate. I got this pair of crocheted white shorts from H&M (everyone else has them too so we can all wear matching outfits, exciting!) and paired them with a silk top from Equipment, a blazer from H&M and my Jeffrey Campbell Litas.

Wednesdy

On Wednesday I wore this outfit. It is one of those easy go to outfits that you only wear on a rare occasion because there is the possibility that you might wear it too often and get bored with it. It is a midi length, short sleeve, black cotton dress from American Apparel and a tan jumper from H&M. I am also wearing boots from Steven by Steve Madden, a purse from Marc by Marc Jacobs, and sunglasses from Oliver Peoples.
Either way, Jordan was nice enough to stop on the way back from school to take my picture (and then edit it). Thank you Jordan!

Glo-fi dream-pop
On Sunday Jordan and I wandered over to Soho to get lattes from Balthazar. I am addicted to their soy lattes. They are a source of faux optimism I swear. We drank our lattes and ate pastries in front of the Crosby Street Hotel (much better then sitting in front of the Balthazar bakery).
It was so warm out, it truly felt like Spring.
