Waffle Knits & Lingonberries

The other night before walking into SoHo, we stopped into Swedish candy store Sockerbit where we took my outfit pic and of course picked up some new Scandinavian imported treats to try. We are not the foodie type of people and we're definitely not the foodie-blog type (we are not that adventurous!), but when it comes to Scandinavian confections, not only have we started seeking them out but you can expect to see one of us taking a picture while the other one of us is writing about it. Why Scandinavian treats? Because they are made with ingredients that we actually know of, the packaging is always well designed (total design every time I swear), and it is always delicious! American chocolate just isn't as good. Also, unlike other foreign sweets, which can seem odd in texture and taste, Scandinavian products have a familiarity to them, making them always palatable. SO, If you are looking for something new to try, the Lingonberry Dark Fairtrade Chocolate bar from Danish Chocolatier Anthon Berg is definitely a new favorite of ours. Made using cocoa beans from Ghana and dried lingonberries, this delicious dark chocolate has a subtle, yet well encompassed fruity flavor to it!

Minimal not Understated

I threw this outfit together last minute before I had to run out the door to class, I feel like it looks super collegiate in the best of ways. 'The best of ways' meaning that it involves a waffle knit, sticks to a modernist color palette, feels very minimal even though there are a lot of textures and different silhouettes, also it was my first chance to wear this shirt from Cheap Monday. I guess wearing any sort of button up blouse to school makes me feel a little collegiate. Also, I have realized that when wearing minimal looks I like to wear simple silver, white gold, or leather jewelry without any nail polish. That way I do not feel like my jewelry and nails are overwhelming each other.

Neon and Tan Waffle Knits

Even though the snow has melted and everything has returned to its normal state, my mind is still in a chalet chic mindset. This outfit reminds me of that 'just off the slopes, I left my Moncler (Canada Goose really) jacket back at my chalet (which is located in Megève) and I couldn't find my Pucci down vest as a backup, so instead I am doing the ultra chic thing and layering waffle knits to stay warm' sort of look. I like the way the tan waffle knit layers over the bright neon waffle knit, and the way the brown of the hat looks kind of odd with the tan. The black bottoms and the wedges only make the look more chalet chic in my opinion, which is a look that I think is quite lovely (even if I do not like skiing/snowboarding or being in the cold for too long). Hugs!

Cheap Monday Jacket

Although we are back in the city, I thought I would do an outfit post from LA. It makes complete sense to me to post this outfit now as it proves how versatile this jacket from Cheap Monday really is! I was probably the only one in a down jacket in Santa Monica that day but that is only because beaches are quite cold and windy in the winter time, even in California. The difference between me wearing a coat in Santa Monica and me wearing a coat here is that in Santa Monica I was fine with just a white t-shirt from Acne on underneath, here it is all about sweaters and layering. It is so bitter sweet! The first two photos are also a little preview of our upcoming issue, which will feature a photo essay from our trip to the pier. Alright, time to get everything sorted! Hugs!

New In: BCBG Max Azria Top & Zara Bottoms

Mariel Bennett and Jordan Romanoff @ Dress Me Mag
I had joked with Jordan about getting these pants and then ended up getting them a week or two ago while I was in SoHo. I really like the print on them, who would have thought? I paired them with a grey knit from BCBG Max Azria and my Cheap Monday wedges. Alright, time for class! Finals baby! Later!

Burgundy Color Combinations and Missoni for Target Shoes

Mariel Bennett and Jordan Romanoff @ Dress Me Mag
This is my first official outfit post of December! Please excuse the terribly un-chic background, it is a little distracting but I think it matches my outfit. Either way, yesterday while getting dressed I decided that I was going to wear this soft, long sleeve burgundy top. Even though in the back of my mind I knew I was going to end up wearing the burgundy top with my red pair of J Brand jeans, I began searching my wardrobe for something navy to pair it with. I was not going to settle on a pair of dark denim and I was not ready to commit to the red jeans (if I get an idea in my head about an outfit sometimes I can stuck on it, which in this case was the navy). After wasting more time than I would like to admit, I realized that I really did not want to wear something navy and I was ready to commit to the red jeans. I threw on my bomber from Cheap Monday (if I was not going to go for the navy/burgundy color combination then there was no reason not to go for the green/burgundy color combination, right?). To complete the look, for the first time I decided to wear my Missoni for Target shoes seeing as I like the way the red and the burgundy go with the tan zigzag stripe on the toe. Back to work for me, later!

Everyday Uniform

Mariel Bennett and Jordan Romanoff @ Dress Me Mag
I feel like this is my everyday uniform lately. My shoes are from Cheap Monday, which is my new go to brand for walking heels (wedges), and they are more than comfortable. I think I have walked literally miles in them. You can get them here!

Knits on Knits

For the first time after class the other day, Jordan and I went into the garden at the New York Public Library that is right by my apartment. I would have worn a more garden appropriate outfit but we hadn't planned to stop in. But I like this outfit, it is one of those outfits you could read magazines in all day. I bought the jeans a couple of sizes to big so they would be baggy and comfortable (and then sent them to the wash so they wouldn't be so baggy). Rolling up the bottoms makes me feel a little like a rebel without a cause and adds that extra bit of casualness that makes it all work. I paired them with a waffle knit (duh) and a big scarf that I knit.

Waffle Knits

Mariel Bennett and Jordan Romanoff @ Dress Me Mag
Recently, I have been looking for thermals everywhere, and when I say everywhere I mean I have spent the past couple of days looking for thermals. Not just any normal thermal but the perfect type of thermal, that is thermals that are made out of a soft material, have the right cut and are the right size waffle knit. Either someone bought all of them them already or no place (that I have been to yet at least) knows how/what or wants to make waffle knits. I did get a perfect one from Free People that I showed previously as well as the crop top one from Urban Outfitters. I love them both, they are so comfortable and keep me warm. Now to find a well cut waffle knit maxi dress, anyone know of any?

Silk and Cashmere

Usually I am not opposed to the idea of wearing black and brown together but the thought of wearing my black faux leather pants with my brown leather bomber actually makes me cringe. So when I was getting dressed, after I had put on this grey cashmere jumper, I found myself in an overly dramatic state of horror. I wanted to collapse, how could I go on?! I definitely was not going to spend the day with the black faux leather and brown leather combination that I previously mentioned and I was not willing to spend the day freezing either. In addition to that, I recently discovered that I do not have the greatest collection of jackets and this incident only made it feel smaller. However, my state of horror was short lived, I remembered that silk and cashmere together make a natural insulator and with that note in mind I was ready to go.

Faux Leather and Helmut Lang

As I mentioned in a previous post, I recently picked up a pair of faux leather pants from H&M. I decided to wear them the other night when Jordan and I wandered into Soho for an espresso. In an attempt to stick to my sweater wearing agenda I threw on my sweater from Helmut Lang, seeing as it is kind of thin and if it was warmer than expected I would be okay. I also threw on this jacket from H&M, which is also pretty light, that way if it was colder than expected I would be warm. That is fashion math for you. My shoes are a couple years old, I picked them up on a trip to Amsterdam with my family. The P.C. Hooftstraat has the best shoe stores I swear. Even though they are a size or a size and a half too big I still love them.

It's a Cheap Monday (Friday)

I kind of have a thing for Cheap Monday, not their jeans, but for everything else. I am not exactly sure how into this brand people are, seeing as you can basically only buy it in store at Urban Outfitters in the US, but I think their collections are cohesive, simplistic and generally cool. Although I generally buy things from Cheap Monday online, I first bought it when I was browsing the UO sale section and came across one of their basic t-shirts in white, in my size, for only ten dollars. What a find! It was soft and it kind of reminded me of the t-shirts from Acne that I love most. I bought the shirt and and now I am completely into the brand, which is why I found myself wearing everything Cheap Monday with the exception of my shoes the other day.
The shoes that I am wearing I bought last weekend for five dollars in Soho. It is strange because I had been looking at a similar pair of Jeffrey Campbell ones a day or two before, which look a lot like these, but no place had them in my size. Also, I did not feel like spending the already low price (when I say low I mean it in comparison to the cost of the high heels that I really want but do not even bother to look at because buying heels like that should be a once in a while sort of purchase in my opinion, unless shoes are your thing of course) of only hundred and something dollars for them. When I found these I was relieved that I would not have to think about the pair of JC ones I do not have and thrilled that I found them. Oh and for those who did not see my previous post, the source of inspiration for the rose in these pictures are the images from my Rosebud Lips post. Later!

Sunday Style

Here is my outfit from Sunday when Jordan and I went to some museums. I got the chance to wear my new bag from Cheap Monday for the first time. It holds everything and is comfortable too. If you are looking for the perfect bargin bag that is a tote/shopper then I would look no further. You can get it here. On a different note, it is hot again, which prevents my sweater wearing agenda from going as planned. I figure it is around the time that I should be wearing knits and even possibly a leather jacket. I am starting to think that I pulled out my pairs of Wolford leggings a bit too soon!

Outfit Inspiration

Do not even be the slightest bit surprised if you see me and I am wearing something like this. Everything is from Cheap Monday except for the 'Mariel' wedges which are from Jeffrey Campbell.

we have been at the LF in LA

Sorry I have not been blogging recently, after I got over being sick I headed to LA where there was little time to blog. I did take lots of photos for blog posts though! Jordan and I made it back to my home up North on Friday just before the hurricane scare hit the city. Now we are waiting for things to pass and on Tuesday we will head back to start our next term at school. Here are some pictures from my first full day in LA. Jordan and I walked over to the LF on Larchmont in the morning so I could shop the sale while it was still on. I picked up a few things that you will get to see soon!

Cheap Monday DIY Shorts

The other night we took a drive to some of the most beautiful places you could ever imagine. I sometimes think I live in one of the strangest most vibrant parts of the country, where it is so beautiful and untouched that you can go crazy from it. If I could take a photograph that could show you how wonderful and beautiful this place truly is I would, but until then I will just have to tell you about it. We did get pictures of my outfit. A t-shirt from Blood is the new Black, a pair of denim shorts that I made out of this silver pair of jeans from Cheap Monday and my Jeffrey Campbell Litas. Later!

I need a fix... of caffeine

Another outfit post?! That is what happens when you basically live in an apartment that is made out of cameras. I  am rarely without a least a small one. Sometimes we have like four cameras on us for no reason and Jordan is carrying all of them (thank you Jordan!). But whatever, what is the point of having cameras if you do not use them?
Here are pictures of us wandering around in Soho and getting a much needed chemical boost before heading back to the studio to work.

100th Post

fashion blog
I am excited to say that it is our 100th post! I have to admit that it came unexpectedly so I do not have anything special to post. Oops!
My outfit post: I find it enjoyable to look at a brand's lookbook after buying an item from one of their collections to see how they styled the garment or what colors they paired it with. Not to copy it but for a point of reference. Although I have seen the T by Alexander Wang lookbook a thousand times, I cannot say I actually have any look memorized. After I had gotten my new skirt I was curious to see how it was styled in the lookbook. Like I said before I never copy a look but after seeing how they styled the skirt I had to try it. Layer on layer on layer on layer (I count the skirt as a layer), literally four layers for Spring! Isn't that marvelous sounding?
Even though I am obsessed with layering (an obsession that started as a necessity form living in the North East) I could not go for all four layers, I do not think I have the attention span for that. Instead I did three. The first is the jersey T by Alexander Wang skirt, then a silk blouse from Equipment, and over that is a light pink knit jumper from Cheap Monday. The shoes are my Jeffrey Campbell 'Mariel' wedges in glitter (worn with black socks).

Clothes and Makeup

I am back to packing! I think I am going to need two suitcases. One for my shoes, bags, electronics, and accessories and the other one for my clothes. I am afraid Jordan is going to think I am crazy when he sees all of the new clothes I picked up. Here are a few pictures from Estate side.

1. New makeup I picked up
2. My view from the front door of my house
3. Me taking notes about garments
4. My pink and black Nikes
5. Me terrified in a flooded area of Burlington

Someone on Tumblr asked me if I workout and wanted to know what I eat and that sort of thing but rather than posting the answer on Tumblr I thought I would do it here. I try to be as active as I can be, I walk loads in the city generally. When I am Estate side I try to take long walks as well. I do not eat dairy and since I have been home I have sort of stopped eating sugar because candy had been one of the main parts of my diet. I basically eat whatever my parents or Jordan cook because they always make me my favorite meals!

Time to finish packing for real! How do you guys pack? I would love some tips!
