The East Side Studio

The most cliche, comfortable late afternoon light streams in through the west facing window causing an abstract reflection on the door as I walk back into the room. The northern wall is filled with an assortment of post-cards, photographs, collages, and miscellanea, the irregular tesserae in full power granted by the long, leaning shadows. Tycho's album Past is Prologue is murmuring from my computer speakers, just loud enough to cover the buzz of New York City below. I have to grab the camera, this moment, this feeling must be recorded. Its been a tough day of work so far, the kind where beginning any task seems unsurmountable and you feel like your time would be better spent lying entangled in a comforter and sheets. Still, we've made it this far, and the looming deadlines overhead have been made less menacing through persistence. The work has only just resumed, having been halted for a late lunch, followed by a brief meander through the endless tunels of the internet. This is the final stretch though, we've made it past the wall. From here it is just one solid session until a night of relaxation, a chance to recouperate so that tomorrow we may begin the battle anew...
Ah, what am I doing writing this... I have to get back to work.

Vermont Photo Diary Pt. 2

The weather was beautiful on Mariel's birthday. I went to Stowe for my first time and we got to walk around without jackets. Being from a place without cold weather, its a kind of surreal experience for me to walk around snowy slopes in a t-shirt and jeans. Unfortunately, we got there too late to ride the gondola to the top of the mountain, but as a consolation we took a shorter trip on a line that went over the parking lot. We got an overhead view of people coming off of the mountain and starting to grill for a big tailgate party in the parking lot.

After coming back, we decided to stop into the bar. It was fairly empty, and the late afternoon light coming in through the large windows accented the wooden lodge style interior with an almost cliche feeling of warmth and comfort. Mariel's father and I both had some of the Vermont beers they had on tap. He had a Rock Art, and I a Long Trail, one of my favorites from the state. Mariel sipped at cosmopolitan made with Vermont vodka, and finished with some help from me. While at the bar, Mariel showed off her new iPad, pulling up our blog.
Sweater: Autumn Cashmere // Pants: Current/Elliott (you can buy them here!)//
After leaving Stowe, we headed towards Hinesburg, where we were to meet up with a party of people who were boiling down sap to make maple syrup. We stopped along the way to take pictures of the cows you can see above. We are still debating whether or not long haired cows are really a thing and if they are if these are them. If anyone has any information on that, let us know... The house was tucked away in the green wilderness, making our preceding trip to Stowe feel as if we had been in a world teeming with humans. The quiet was matched by a perfectly still lake, accessible through a short trip around a natural wall of trees. The chickens and cat that populated the place were more wildlife than I've been in close proximity with for a while. Not pictured here is the home made beer that we had there. It may have inspired my to make my own batch, but who knows when... brewing in the city seems difficult.

Soho

Pictures from this past weekend in Soho. I kind of secretly want everything inside of Marni, which is weird considering that I usually wear mostly black, white and grey. Then again, who doesn't want everything inside of Marni?

Vermont Photo Diary pt. 2

The first half of these photos came from one morning that I took a walk to Lake Champlain while Mariel was getting her hair done. I don't really know if you'd call what I'm doing street photography or whatever, but walking around with a camera is my favorite way to explore spaces. It was cold and windy on that morning, with the number of people present decreased till it got near zero around the lake's edge. The empty space was a perfect atmosphere to really relax and focus on all of the visual features of the area.
The last few are from a walk I took down to the pond behind her house with her father. The sun was setting just over the hill that separates her house from the lake. The fading light was just enough to get in a few shots.

Vermont Photo Diary Pt. I

Here is the first set of photos from our two part Vermont photo diary. All of the pictures were taken by Jordan, with the exception of the photograph of him. A lot of these photos were taken on the third floor of my house where we slept. The lighting in that big room is just so lovely. Sleeping up there reminds me of sleeping in a rustic log cabin in the middle of a winter wonderland, which is quite a cozy thing in my opinion, especially when waking up in a warm, comfortable bed (in an otherwise freezing room) to snow covered windows.

N Y C you there

These photos were taken using a Canon point and shoot that has been modified to shoot infrared. But what we are really trying to say is that the DMM Team will be venturing out of the NYC offices for a little over a week. Jordan is heading west to L.A. and I am heading up north to Vermont. Jordan will be doing field research in addition to meet with some of contributors while I will be styling, shooting, and blogging. In fact I will be keeping a photo diary and will be doing a lot of blogging.

See you soon Manhattan! We will miss you!

xx
